We’ve moved a lot, so we know a lot of good tricks for easy ways to move on a budget. Here’s some suggestions to ease the pain of moving, even if you don’t have the money to hire movers and packers.
Movers and Packers
This is my first suggestion, because it’s absolutely the least painful. If your employer is paying for your move, you can walk away from all the work of moving. Packers will come pack all your belongings, then movers will move all your belongings to your new location, where packers may come unpack your belongings again. Usually, folks want to unpack their own belongings, because we all have preferences where our stuff should go. This is not easy on your budget, unless someone else is paying for your move!
Staggered Moved
If you have access to both your old and new homes for a couple of weeks at least, moving slowly can really be easier. Pack a few boxes or suitcases each day, taking them to the new home to unpack them immediately. Do this daily, until the only things left to move are your large pieces of furniture. Move those last, and you’re already unpacked when you move into your new home.
DIY Packing
If you’re packing up your stuff, just get organized. Find a way to label each box, based on where it is going in the new house. This can be color codes, words, labels and more. Remember, the boxes will stacked on top of each other, and the movers will likely stack them randomly, so put your markings on the sides. Preferably mark them on multiple sides, so the movers can see it easily, no matter which side they’re looking at. Unpacking is so much easier when the boxes are already in the room where the stuff belongs.
These are just a few of our tips for easy moving on a budget. So whether you use your pickup truck, a rental truck, or a moving company, maybe these tips will make it a little easier. And, if you have your own tips to share, please leave your comments!
